The
Symphony integrated amplifier heralds
a new era in compact-sized audiophile amplifiers
introducing a totally modular concept that makes
it ready for future upgrades.
It
was designed to help
you extract the best out of wide
variety of sources in existence today including
traditional analog sources, CD/DVD
players as well as the newest generation of
computer-based music
sources like USB audio devices and the
revolutionary Squeezebox™.
Looking beneath
its elegant surface, the Symphony not only combines
engineering excellence with intelligent
technologies but also reveals some of the finest
quality parts from Burr Brown™, Wolfson Microelectronics™
or Analog Devices™ just to name a few. The general
preference of surface mount parts helps to keep
signal paths as short as possible to prevent
loss of even the finest musical detail.
Two line level
inputs (1x RCA and 1x D-Sub) provide connectivity
for an external ANALOG source of your choice
as well as for Apple's iPod. The optional DAC
(digital to analog converter) module adds another
set of three independent DIGITAL inputs (1x
Coax/BNC, 1x Toslink and 1x USB) . Input selection
and volume adjustment tasks are comfortably
operated either via front panel rotary knobs
or the supplied remote control.

The high-current
capable discrete power amplifier stage in the
Symphony was built on sophisticated UcD switching
amplification technology featuring our own custom
modifications. It delivers up to 100 watts/channel
into 8 Ohm and 160 watts/channel into 4 Ohms.
An entirely passive feedback loop vouches for
sonic purity, totally free from grain or colorations.
It also exhibits low output impedance and a
flat frequency response, invariant of connected
loads which allows you to drive most loudspeakers
with ease. But in spite of all that, the Symphony
remains extremely frugal in terms of power consumption
and never runs hot. Additional safety circuitry
protects your amplifier and speakers against
DC or accidental shorts.
|
The Symphony makes
you re-think the concept of an "integrated
amplifier". Unlike traditional integrated
amplifers using shared supplies to save
costs,
the Symphony houses a totally separate
preamplifier plus stereo power amplifier
within a single enclosure each having
their own dedicated power transformers,
filter capacitors and rectifiers.
This allows both pre- and power amplifier
units of the Symphony to be used independently
with no compromise and perform on par
with the best "two-box" solutions. In
addition, all critical signal stages
of the Symphony are regulated for optimal
performance.
|
 |
Because power supply quality is paramount,
the power amplifier is served by a backbone
consisting of a 300VA potted torodial
transformer with electrostatic and magnetic
shielding, ultrafast discrete Hexfred™
recitifier diodes bypassed by film caps
and a filtering capacity of 40.000 MFD.
Dual-wave rectification has been employed
in pre- and power amplifier supplies
for optimal noise suppression. Your
music emerges from a totally black background
with speed, attack and full resolution.
 |
Pre-
and Power Amplifier Stage Volume
attenuation in the Symphony
is performed by a digitally
controlled precision resistor
network featuring the famous
low-distortion Burr Brown™ PGA2320.
|
The Symphony's preamplifier board offers
fine 0.5dB attenuation steps with virtually
no tracking errors and was carefully
optimized to impose none of the typical
dynamic limits inherent in other preamplifiers.
A digital microcontroller is processing
your commands and monitors system state.
For smooth operating conditions and
to avoid ground contaminations or interferences
with the delicate analog circuits, it
draws energy from its own dedicated
power supply. Interactions with the
microcontroller are always kept at a
bare minimum.
|
If
you own a Slimdevices Squeezebox,
you can supply it directly with
linear DC power right from the
rear panel jack of the Symphony
for improved sound quality.
A dedicated power supply and
transformer provide your Squeezebox™
with clean, regulated 5V linear
power. As an additional benefit,
your Squeezebox will be automatically
powered on/off as you turn the
Symphony on or off. |
 |
Through
the optional digital to analog (DAC)
converter board, all your digital sources
including CD/DVD Players as well as
the Squeezebox, PC's, Laptops or Mac's
can deliver crystal clear digital audio
performance. At its core, the digital
to analog converter board features renowned
Wolfson WM8740 24-bit/96kHz digital-to-analog
converters, a low-jitter master clock,
an optimized board layout for digital
audio and supports Coaxial/BNC/Toslink
and USB/I2S inputs. In addition, a WordClock
input allows the Digital Input Board
to be synchronized to an external clock
source of your choice (such as a studio-grade
master clock).
Use the
Symphony's supplied remote control for
convenient access to all of its features
including input selection or volume
adjustment. If you own a Squeezebox,
some of its remote control functionality
can be shared using IRBlaster. Your
Squeezebox remote can adjust volume
on the Symphony or put both to standby
at the same time. It doesn't get easier!
 |
The
Symphony is housed in an solid,
non-magnetic all-aluminium enclosure
featuring an unobtrusive and
timeless design. A custom
machined volume knob in high
gloss gold guarantees excellent
volume matching.
The Symphony will ship
in your choice of black or silver
anodized enclosures
with a high gloss gold knob
(other front panel colors upon
request).
If you desire even more
luxury, the SE Edition gives
you an additional choice
of high gloss chrome
or gold front panels. |
